Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC)

Protecting Children. Restoring Hope. Rebuilding Lives.

Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC) is one of the most devastating forms of abuse a child can endure. It occurs when a child or youth is exploited through sex acts in exchange for money, shelter, food, protection, drugs, or other basic needs. These children are not criminals — they are victims.

At Out Of Love, we believe every child deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to heal. Our mission is to stand in the gap for vulnerable youth who have been exploited, silenced, or overlooked, and to walk beside them on the path toward recovery and hope.

The Reality

Children impacted by commercial sexual exploitation are often carrying deep, invisible wounds long before the exploitation begins. Many come from backgrounds marked by trauma, instability, and unmet basic needs — circumstances that leave them searching for safety, belonging, or survival. Homelessness or housing insecurity, abuse or neglect, involvement in the foster care system, poverty, and untreated mental health challenges create conditions where vulnerability is easily exploited. In these moments, children are often manipulated, coerced, or forced into situations they do not fully understand and cannot escape on their own. Exploitation does not happen because of choice — it happens when a child’s need for protection, stability, and care goes unmet. This reality demands compassion, awareness, and action to ensure no child is left unprotected or unheard.

Our Approach

Out Of Love takes a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach to supporting youth affected by SEC. We focus on meeting immediate needs while building long-term pathways to safety and stability.

Our support includes:

  • Safe referrals and resource connections

  • Mentorship and trusted adult support

  • Life skills and empowerment programs

  • Counseling and emotional support

  • Education and prevention efforts

  • Access to housing and supportive services

  • We meet youth where they are — without judgment — and help them reclaim their voice, identity, and future.

Why This Work Matters

Children who have been commercially sexually exploited often carry deep feelings of shame, fear, and invisibility, believing the harm they endured defines who they are or makes them unworthy of help. Many have learned not to trust adults or systems that were meant to protect them, making healing a slow and fragile process. Recovery requires time, patience, and consistent, compassionate support from people who are willing to show up again and again. When a child is finally given safety, understanding, and genuine opportunity, something powerful happens — trust begins to grow, hope is restored, and the cycle of exploitation can be broken. This work is life-saving. It helps rebuild shattered confidence, restores dignity, and gives children back what was taken from them: the freedom to heal, dream, and simply be children again.

Prevention Is Protection

Prevention is a critical part of ending exploitation. Out Of Love is committed to education, early intervention, and community awareness to reduce risk factors and protect vulnerable youth before harm occurs.

By strengthening families, providing mentorship, and creating safe spaces, we help reduce the conditions that allow exploitation to take root.
